Club Visit to Switzerland 2008
The Club had an extremely successful visit to Switzerland from 10th-14th September, based in Basel and visiting Zurich, Bern and St. Urban. Excursions Officer, Graeme, did a great job and received considerable help from members of the Ramstein Family. Several of us had fond memories of the late brothers, Rolf & Walter, who had been extremely hospitable when we first visited eleven years ago.

Till & Ruth Ramstein upheld this family tradition in tremendous style and we were most grateful to them for their help throughout the visit. A full report of the visit will appear in the January Newsletter and pictures of the visit are in Picture Gallery 3.

New Club Publication
Ronald MacGregor has produced a new, revised version of his book "Restoring Ophthalmic Antiques", which was issued free to all members with the October Newsletter. Additional copies are available @ £7.50 plus postage.

Celebrating our 25th Anniversary in May 2007
2007 was the 25th Anniversary of the founding of the Club in 1982. During this time it has evolved from the one-man-band inspiration of founder Derek Davidson to a well established learned society communicating with collectors in many countries around the world, whilst the Newsletter (with a special edition due for its' 100th Issue in July) is now generally acknowledged as a premier archive of optical antiques and history.

To celebrate this milestone in the Club's career, Gordon Turner expertly and painstakingly organised a three-day event in London from 11th-13th May. A total of 49 members (with no less than 15 from abroad, 4 from the US) enjoyed a river trip down the Thames, visits to the Greenwich Maritime Museum, the Fan Museum, the Royal College of Ophthalmologist's Museum, the Reserve Collection of the Science Museum, the Benjamin Franklin Museum and, of course, the British Optical Museum at the College of Optometrists. A 25th Anniversary Dinner on the Saturday and the AGM & Auction on the Sunday, were held at the Strand Palace Hotel.

The AGM was notable for the welcome addition of new, younger blood to the ranks of the Club Officers. Michael Lebby has filled the long-standing vacancy of Publicity Officer, he will be supported by a co-opted sub-committee. Graeme Holland has taken over as Excursions Officer, following Gordon Turner's well-deserved retirement. John Dixon-Salt has been co-opted as Minutes Secretary assisting the Chairman.

Following the AGM three expert talks, with computerised pictures, were given by David Fleishman on his antiquespectacles Website, by George Sturrock on Eyebaths and by Jean-Marie Devriendt on Opera Glasses.
